In recognition of the day, Life Healthcare is purchasing 15?000 Slipper Day stickers to be worn by nurses across its 63 facilities nationwide — a visible symbol of solidarity, hope and humanity on the frontlines of care, says Life Healthcare.

Slipper Day, one of South Africa's CSI initiatives, raises funds to help make dreams come true for children diagnosed with serious and life-threatening illnesses — many of whom spend extended periods in hospital and are cared for by nurses who go beyond clinical treatment to provide comfort and reassurance when facing anxiety or fear about diagnosis, treatment or simply because they are in a hospital environment.

"Healthcare is built on human connection," says Avanthi Parboosing, Chief People Officer at Life Healthcare. "For many children living with serious illness, nurses are the familiar faces who help them feel safe, seen and supported. Reach For A Dream exists to bring hope by making children's dreams come true during extraordinarily difficult journeys. By supporting Slipper Day, we are recognising the compassion our nurses show every day, so that Reach For A Dream can create moments of joy and possibility for young patients and their families."

This year's participation is intentionally aligned to Life Healthcare's 'Power Behind Care' campaign, which highlights that nurses not only deliver high-quality care, but shape clinical decisions, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and support patients to better understand their health, adds Life Healthcare.

It also recognises the quiet strength, empathy and resilience of nurses, underpinned by the Group's purpose of making life better — not only through clinical excellence, but through meaningful human connection.

"Nurses are at the heart of the work we do at Reach For A Dream Foundation. They are the ones walking alongside children and families every single day through some of their hardest moments. Our partnership with Life Healthcare means so much because together we are able to bring comfort, hope, and moments of joy to children when they need it most," adds Julia Sotirianakos, CEO at the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

Life Healthcare's support for Slipper Day forms part of its broader corporate social investment (CSI) strategy, which focuses on improving access to care, supporting vulnerable patients, and partnering with trusted organisations like Reach For A Dream, so that together we can make a meaningful difference in patients' lives.

For many children supported by Reach For A Dream, hospitals are familiar spaces — and nurses are trusted figures who help children feel safe while undergoing treatment. Through its Slipper Day participation, Life Healthcare is helping nurses champion a cause that resonates deeply with their daily work, says Life Healthcare.

"Slipper Day is a simple but special way for us as nurses to show our support for the children whose dreams Reach For A Dream helps bring to life. It reminds us how small acts of kindness and care can make a big difference," says Registered Nurse, Fundiswa Matyala at Life Brenthurst Hospital.

As nurses across Life Healthcare hospitals wear their Slipper Day stickers, they do so not only in support of a fundraising initiative, but as a reminder of the power behind care in making life better — one act of kindness, one dream and one patient at a time, concludes Life Healthcare.
